I started with a conventional view of the square, a section seen from the park. I then had an idea of representing the space as mapped or seen from the centre of the park and rotating. I wanted to contrast the splendour of the surviving pre revolution architecture with the present day, so used newspaper to emulate the texture of the walls and to bring the ephemera of the modern into the image. I combine pencil, cut paper, ink and wash in this image.
