I used to swim at Point Roadnight as a child and now have taken my children there- and a sketchbook. While the essence of what I saw is there the sea is eroding the Point and taking sand to sea. The sand caves I played in and near as a child are washed away.
I wanted to show what I had seen in the drawings in the form of a painting and a shaped canvas. The featured image is the final and below left is a late phase before adding wax paint to the centre. At the right below is an image showing the shaping of the final. This is an extreme of the adage that painting is thin sculpture….
To the left is a near finished, and below is the finished article, completed with use of wax and oil, and coffer dams.
