Karst formations on the Li River

In 2008 I travelled to China and took a boat up the Li River.  I painted in pen and ink on the way, much to the amazement of fellow tourists.  The   images adopt elements of the landscape aesthetic of sumi-e painting, probably unconsciously:

I was just looking back at watercolour and ink drawings in the Adelaide Hills and was struck by the image being about the spaces between branches, as a tracery and about curved marks.

Bonython’s view

This is a large oil on linen I did while resident in Adelaide and was sold as part of my Exhibition there.

It is on a shaped form designed to mimic undulations and challenge the flat rectangle.

it also runs from raw canvas to layered and glazed at the top and features textured paint and drizzled glazes.
