David Schilling, Double bass

A few years ago I drew David when playing with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.  I then did a painting (in the portfolio) from this drawing, as I like the merger of instrument with body of a musician.  This is what is in the sketch book:

while on water…

A friend dropped in and commented on the Harlequin Duck painting. Iwas trying to explain the origin in a drawing so I though I’d post it.  It started with this ink and wash drawing and then evolved into two duck paintings and the Harlequin Duck.  which is showing directional movement and is all about the coloured wake.

Venice and high water

I did some watercolours in Venice on the same trip to Italy, which I later used to build and paint a screen with one side looking across the Grand Canal at the palazzos opposite Santa Maria Della Salute and the other looking across the laguna to San Giorgio Magiore.  A lot of the colour application is in liquid glaze over opaque surfaces mirroring watercolour technique.

Drawing in Italy…

I found these images of some drawings I did in Italy in 2002.  I received an invitation to a friend’s wedding in Italy and find myself regretting the practical decision to not go.  So nostalgia over memories of Italy turned me to the drawings.  Of the baptistery at Pisa and at Villa D’Este:
