A friend dropped in and commented on the Harlequin Duck painting.
Iwas trying to explain the origin in a drawing so I though I’d post it. It started with this ink and wash drawing and then evolved into two duck paintings and the Harlequin Duck. which is showing directional movement and is all about the coloured wake.
I did some watercolours in Venice on the same trip to Italy, which I later used to build and paint a screen with one side looking across the Grand Canal at the palazzos opposite Santa Maria Della Salute and the other looking across the laguna to San Giorgio Magiore. A lot of the colour application is in liquid glaze over opaque surfaces mirroring watercolour technique.
I found these images of some drawings I did in Italy in 2002. I received an invitation to a friend’s wedding in Italy and find myself regretting the practical decision to not go. So nostalgia over memories of Italy turned me to the drawings. Of the baptistery at Pisa and at Villa D’Este:

Why? For the fun of it and as an experiment with an image. I also think it interesting in that it links the original shaped canvas to the paralax error found by moving around it.
