Copper moon

This is a small work 20 cm on a side. The round is 13 cm across.
I took Huon pine off cuts to create the frame and then build a round as a focal point. The thinking was that a strong abstract colour form was needed for the central point.
The verdigris feel emerged

The round responds to the inside edges of the frame and segments the backplate into triangles while the outside edge is reacting to the wall it is hanging on and the straight lines of houses.

There are also strong contrasts:

in colour to rough matt timber; and

of the gloss surface of the round to the texture of the bark edge.

The work has been accepted into the Feel Good rt Prize (as one of 51 works) at Quadrant Gallery in Barkers Road Hawthorn- open now on 3 March.
