Oil on linen
84 x 41 cm, shaped stretcher
Stan Cross drew this iconic Australian cartoon in the 1920’s in pen and ink.
This reinterpretation is based on the cartoon as I wanted to examine how space was depicted in cubist terms and the dual recession to ground and horizon.
As the cartoon has a curvature in the line of the buildings it appears to me as if the scene was drawn from a photograph as this reflects the curvature of a lens.
I am hopeful that the humour of the original remains evident in the reinterpretation.
