The image is of a 76 by 55 cm watercolour I did in around 2005, as a self protrait.  i modelled the pose after a cover of a joyce text, “portrait of the artist as a young man” and titled it portrait of the artist as a middle aged man.  the background is a palimpsest of quotes of artists about portraits, written in sepia ink.
