freeing a drawing to the child

or at least donating it to a worthy cause to aid children in need.

In 2009 I did a watercolour/ink and pencil drawing of the You Yangs from Drysdale Cemetary (50 cm by 65 cm) and donated it to the inagural Lasallian foundation fine art auction. The Lasallian Foundation in conjunction with Menzies Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers held a Fine Art Charity Auction on Sunday 29 August 2010, in support of its charitable work with children.

“The work was done plein air on a visit to the cemetery where my father-in-law Stan Alford reposes with a splendid view across the bay. The hot still day and the drought burnt landscape made an impression evident in the yellow ochre and sepia inks used. Active marks made with the nib animate the surface and describe the forms inherent in the landscape.

On the day it was exciting as the Auctioneer started things off and it rapidly bid over the Value of $500 in competing bids to realise $800 for the cause.
